Colorimeter:
- It is used to measure the amount of color produced by mixing different chemicals in Clary.
Principle of Colorimeter:
The colorimeter discriminates between the color of light from the patient sample and the light from the standard and thus the color present in the patient sample. The amount of chemical can be determined.
Absorbance of test
Concentration of test ×⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ =concentration of standard
Absorbance of standard
The path of light in a colorimeter is constant. A clear solution is always used in a colorimeter with a cloudy solution in the light path There may be an obstacle.
Reagent Blank:
It contains all the chemical components that make up the color except the chemical which is measured by a colorimeter.
Components used in colorimeter
- Cuvetes
- Colorimeter, filter digital or manual
- Water bath
- Relevant chemical standard,control,blank etc
- Pipet different sizes
- Stopwatch or Culculatar
- Related literature of the test
- Read the colorimeter manufacturer's instructions carefully before use
- Use the correct size cuvette in the colorimeter and ensure that the cuvette is thoroughly cleaned before use.
- The solution in the cuvette should be free from any contamination.
- The solution in the cuvette should be free from any contamination.
- Calibrate the colorimeter test according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Clean the colorimeter thoroughly after use.
